Should American Churches Celebrate Juneteenth? The Apostle Paul tells us that we need to have solidarity with each other. We need to rejoice with our brothers and sisters that rejoice and weep with our brothers and sisters that weep. This solidarity is crucial to the American church moving towards genuine multiethnic unity. In 1865, federal troops arrived by ship in Galveston, not to proclaim freedom but to enforce the freedom already proclaimed 2 ½ year earlier. Of the 6000 soldiers that disembarked in Galveston, 4000 were black! Imagine the imagery as Galveston was a small town of about 10,000 at the time. What is Juneteenth? Why should we remember it? How is it relevant to building multiethnic unity in the church today? And how has Black America preserved the gospel? This 75-minute documentary gives a powerful telling on Juneteenth and how the legacy of Juneteeth continues to shape us today. Be warned in advance. This documentary can evoke deep emotion.https://lnkd.in/gvRpbhAT
